COMMITTEE AND SECTION UPDATES

Civic Engagement Committee: The Civic Engagement Committee of the YLD will be hosting a “Pathway to the Judiciary” Panel on December 11, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bar Center in Cary, featuring the following jurists: Court of Appeals Judge Allegra Collins, Fmr. Supreme Court Justice Bob Edmunds, Fmr. Court of Appeals Judge and Supreme Court Justice Robert N. Hunter, Jr., NC Admin. Law Judge Melissa Lassiter, Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway, and Fmr. Court of Appeals Judge Linda Stephens. Food and refreshments will be provided. Unable to attend in person? Join us LIVE on Zoom.

Lawyers & The Rule of Law : The Rule of Law is a hot topic, but it is also an integral thread to the fabric of our society.  What is it?  Why is it so important?  Do attorneys have a role to play in promoting the Rule of Law?  Join the YLD & the Greensboro Bar Association YLS for a conversation with Dr. Gerald Postema, Professor Emeritus of philosophy at UNC Chapel Hill, and Kearns Davis, former president of the North Carolina Bar Association.  Dr. Postema will elaborate on value of the Rule of Law and the role attorneys can play in strengthening it.  Mr. Davis will share reflections on the Rule of Law from his experience as head of the NCBA Delegation to Haiti.  Hors d’ouevres and beverages provided.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee: The NCBA Young Lawyers Division Diversity and Inclusion Committee invites you to an informal mixer with diverse attorneys and law students at Dram and Draught in Greensboro on January 23, 2020, from 5:30 to 7:30. Your first drink is on the YLD! The famous 1618 will be hosting happy hour until 6:00, so come early for delicious snacks and stay longer for great conversation.

Law Student Reception: The NCBA is looking for volunteers to attend the annual Law Student Reception at the Bar Center on January 23, 2020, from 5:00 – 7:00. Attend on behalf of a section or practice area to meet law students from all of North Carolina’s law schools and answer their questions.  Sign up to volunteer here.

Brewing for the Greater Good: The YLD is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Brewing for the Greater Good Series again this year to benefit the North Carolina Bar Foundation. These events, hosted in cities across North Carolina, are an opportunity to bring together area YLD and NCBA members – their family and friends – at local breweries for fun, fellowship and philanthropy. The YLD has long been the volunteer force behind the Foundation’s pro bono and public service programs. The NC Bar Foundation would like to thank the YLD for their ongoing support and share how the outreach of the YLD is impacting the people and communities of North Carolina. Save the date for our first event: April 15, 2020.
