Welcome To the Bankruptcy Section Blog!

By Anna B. Osterhout

I am pleased to be part of the Bankruptcy Section’s initial blog post. While the Bankruptcy Section’s newsletter, the Disclosure Statement (and before that, the Bankruptcy Lawyer), served us well for decades, I am excited that the Bankruptcy Section has launched a more modern and updated way to communicate with our members. Many thanks to all Bankruptcy Section members who served on the Newsletter Committee or who contributed to the Disclosure Statement over the years!

The newly formed Communications Committee is planning at least two blog posts each month. If you are interested in providing content for the blog, please contact Jennifer Lyday, Communications Committee Chair ([email protected]).

Council Meeting and Networking Event

The Bankruptcy Section Council held its first meeting of the 2018-2019 year on August 9, 2019. We were pleased to have Elizabeth Repetti, former Bankruptcy Section Chair, join us as the Board of Governors’ liaison to the Bankruptcy Section. We had a great meeting at which we addressed various matters including:

• plans for the 41st Annual Bankruptcy Institute;

• the Legislative Committee’s efforts with regard to the proposed receivership statute;

• the formation of a Value Proposition Assessment Committee which will consider what benefits the Bankruptcy Section provides to its members and ways in which the Bankruptcy Section might enhance or improve those benefits; and

• plans for a bankruptcy basics webinar during the coming year.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2018 in Pinehurst.

We had an amazing turnout at the networking event that followed the Council meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new colleagues from across the State. I received lots of positive feedback from various individuals who attended the event. By all accounts, it was a great success!

Annual Bankruptcy Institute

Registration is now open for the 41st Annual Bankruptcy Institute that will be held Nov. 2 and 3 in Pinehurst. J.P. Cournoyer and Brian Anderson, CLE Committee Co-Chairs, have put together an excellent program that includes many dynamic speakers and hot topics. Please watch your inbox for information regarding registration.

I hope to see you all in Pinehurst!
