Welcome to the Small Firm & Technology Section. It has taken us about a year, but we are now rolling out our new name. As of the NCBA Board of Governors meeting on Thursday, Jan. 25, the Law Practice Management & Technology Section and the Solo, Small Firm & General Practice Section have been approved to officially combine to form the Small Firm & Technology Section. This change will formally roll out July 1, 2018, but we are introducing the new name now in preparation for the upcoming bar year.
This change resulted from many meetings and hours of debate by members of the Solo, Small Firm, & General Practice Section and the Law Practice Management & Technology Section. Our deliberation was productive, and we unanimously agreed to proceed our work together to create new Section bylaws, and, most important, a new section name, that would be a reflection of the personality and membership of both sections.
As solo and small firms grow and prosper, the combined Section wanted to represent smaller firms of all sizes. These small and nimble firms are in a unique position to capitalize on today’s technology to become more efficient and more profitable. We anticipate that the structure of the new Section will meet the needs of advancing the interests of all attorneys in small firms and provide a dynamic platform in which those attorneys can interact with law practice technology professionals at the vanguard of their field.
As we move forward, we are looking for participation from both sides of the Section working toward one goal, value for your membership. And, we need your help. We welcome you to join us in this new venture by volunteering to lead the Small Firm & Technology Section as a Council Members or Committee Chairs.
We need help planning CLE programming, writing blog posts that would benefit your fellow members, organizing networking events for Small Firm & Technology Section members, and helping the Section to analyze potential small firm and technology ethics opinions. We also want to continue to support programs, like Starting Out Solo, that have been successful, and develop new programs, both online and in person, that will be valuable to you.
We look forward to working as the new Small Firm & Technology Section and hope you will join us. We appreciate your membership in the NCBA and look forward to you continuing your membership with the Small Firm & Technology Section. If you are interested in participating, or need more information about what these roles entail, please contact Pegeen Turner or Matt Van Sickle.
