Our Annual Workshop In Kiawah Is Just Two Months Away

By Keith Wood

On Wednesday, March 7, the Tax Section Council met at the Mecklenburg County Bar Center in Charlotte, and so I wanted to give everyone an update on some of the things happening in our Section.

First and foremost, Kevin May and his CLE Committee have organized an outstanding CLE agenda for the 17th Annual North Carolina/South Carolina/Georgia Tax Section Workshop to be held May 25-27 in Kiawah Island, S.C.  Below you will see a summary of the program agenda.

Again this year, we have a limited number of rooms block reserved at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.  So please be sure to log on to kiawahresort.com soon and make your room reservation. And go to Tax Section Workshop to register for the event.

Also, the Tax Section Council is offering up to four scholarships at $300 each for Tax Section members who are attending the CLE workshop for the first time and who are in their first five years of practice.  Please let us know if you are interested in applying for a scholarship for the Tax Section Workshop by sending an email to [email protected].

At our last Tax Section meeting, we received a presentation from Tom Hull and Stoke Caldwell on behalf of the North Carolina Bar Foundation.  The NC Bar Foundation is the charitable partner of the NCBA. Its mission is to unite the talent and generosity of our profession to be a power of greater good for the people of North Carolina.

Tom and Stoke reminded us that all of our public service and pro bono projects are coordinated through the NCBF – this includes the recent 4ALL service day on March 2 when 8,300 people were served statewide. Tom and Stoke reminded us that all of our gifts to the Annual Fund (former Patron Campaign) make these efforts possible. The current 2017-2018 campaign runs thru June 30. If you wish to contribute to the NC Bar Foundation, you can make your gift online at www.ncbarfoundation.org/donate.  Or, send checks to P.O. Box 3688, Cary, NC 27519.

At the Tax Section Council meeting, we also discussed whether Section members would be interested in organized social events, such as breakfast, lunch or after hours.  Allie Petrova, our Membership Committee Chair, will be working on organizing some type of social event in the Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem area.  Please be on the lookout for notice of this upcoming event.

And finally, please feel free to submit any articles you would like to see published on our Blog, whether short or long.  All submissions will be greatly appreciated.

That’s it, and I look forward to seeing many of you at Kiawah on May 25. Here is the Workshop agenda:
