MIP Event Recap: NCBA MIP Annual Pre-Law Conference

On March 16, 2024, the North Carolina Bar Association Minorities in the Profession Committee hosted its annual Pre-Law Conference. Targeted to high school, college and second-career professionals, the conference was a day-long event to give a behind-the-curtain look at what it would look like for someone to attend law school, and what benefits and challenges they would face during the journey.

The day consisted of panel conversations from admissions staff at all six North Carolina law schools; a law student panel; a discussion about how to pay for law school and a practicing attorney panel. The day started with an inspiring keynote address from Dawn Blagrove, executive director of Emancipate NC, who delivered inspiring remarks on the power of a law degree and what it can do to give students the leverage to impact their communities. The key message from the entire day was law school may not be for everyone, but for those who take that path, it can give you a sense of purpose and meaning for your career.

April Giancola is leaving North Carolina to return to Boston. We wish April all the best on her new journey and will miss her tremendously!
