Advocate Health Adds Associate General Counsel Attorney
Michael Berwanger has joined Advocate Health as associate general counsel. Berwanger has experience in value-based care, managed care, privacy and data security and other health care regulatory matters. He previously held the role of vice president of compliance and legal affairs at CHESS Health Solutions since June 2019, where he served as corporate secretary. Prior to this role, Berwanger was director of quality management and compliance at MedCost LLC. Berwanger serves as the Communications Chair of the NCBA Health Law Section. He holds a J.D. from the New England School of Law and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is certified by the Health Care Compliance Association in Health Care Privacy.
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP Elevates Medlin to Counsel
Lyndsay Medlin was promoted to counsel. Medlin has practiced with the firm for eight years. She helps clients in the areas of litigation, investigation and compliance needs, and she also offers counsel to clients in matters of privacy and cybersecurity. In 2017, she was inducted into the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society. Medlin serves as a volunteer with the Humane Society of Charlotte. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was the articles development editor for Virginia Sports and Entertainment Law Journal. She holds a B.A., cum laude, from Duke University.
Cranfill Sumner LLP Names New Partners
Ryan Bostic, who practices in the firm’s Wilmington office, has been named a partner with the firm. Bostic is a litigation attorney focusing on high exposure personal injury matters, which include wrongful death, catastrophic injury, and sexual abuse cases. Bostic defends licensed professionals against claims of professional negligence and malpractice. He has served as outside council on behalf of local governments, and he also practices community association law. He received his J.D. from Appalachian School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University.
Vince Eisinger practices in the firm’s Raleigh office. Eisinger, a civil commercial litigator, is a part of the Business Disputes & Litigation and Employment Law practice groups. He provides support to the White Collar, Government Investigations and Special Matters practice group. Eisinger is the secretary for the North Carolina World Trade Association and previously served as the association’s interim vice president. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University (Provo).
Davis Hartman Wright LLP Announces New Partner, Associate
Dan Gibson has joined the firm as a partner in the appellate, business, constitutional, and litigation practice groups. Gibson is based in Durham. He previously served as the NCBA Appellate Practice Section Communications Chair, and he has co-led an NCBA CLE presentation on collegiality in the profession. This spring, he is teaching a course at Wake Forest University School of Law. He received a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2015, and he holds an undergraduate degree in government with a minor in history from Campbell University.
Samantha Hamilton has joined the firm as an associate, and she practices environmental law. Hamilton is based in New Bern. From 2019 to 2022, she served as a Guardian ad Litem. She is a 2022 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law, where she was recognized as a Pro Bono Honor Society Member, and she holds a master’s degree in sustainability from Wake Forest University. She received undergraduate degrees in English and marine sciences from the University of South Carolina.
The North Carolina Real Estate Commission Welcomes Fetter as Assistant Director of Regulatory Affairs
In October of 2023, the North Carolina Real Estate Commission named Kristen Fetter as the assistant director of regulatory affairs. Prior to this role, Fetter served as chief deputy legal counsel with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission for two years. From 2017 to 2021, Fetter served as assistant district attorney for Wake County District Attorney’s office. From 2011 to 2014, she held the role of trial court administrator with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts. Fetter serves as the Communications Co-Chair for the NCBA Administrative Law Section. She earned her J.D. from Campbell Law School and graduated from North Carolina State University with undergraduate degrees in political science and Spanish language and literature.
Robinson Bradshaw Elects New Shareholders
Robinson Bradshaw recently announced the election of six new shareholders, including NCBA members Demi Lorant Bostian, Kevin R. Crandall, Bernard C. Funk and Alexis M. Iffert. Crandall, Funk and Iffert practice out of Robinson Bradshaw’s Charlotte office and Bostian is based in the firm’s Research Triangle office.
Demi Bostian earned her law degree from Columbia University as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and her bachelor’s degree with honors and highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She counsels corporations and individuals in complex civil and business disputes, litigating matters ranging from commercial fraud, breach of contract and unfair trade practices to nationwide class action cases. Bostian advises clients through all stages of litigation, from factual development to appeals, in both state and federal court and in industries including health care and banking and finance. She has advocated for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, underserved students and schools, and the LGBTQ+ community as part of her pro bono practice.
Kevin Crandall received his law degree, cum laude, from Harvard University, his master’s degree from the University of Alabama, and his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Clemson University. He represents clients involved in significant business disputes, with extensive experience in matters involving antitrust law, mass tort litigation, product liability and unfair trade practices. He advises companies on antitrust compliance and assists them in complying with the federal Hart-Scott-Rodino Act and obtaining antitrust clearance for significant mergers and acquisitions.
Bernard Funk holds a law degree and a master’s degree from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree with departmental honors and distinction from Stanford University. He represents both banks and non-bank lenders, including business development companies, small business investment companies and private credit funds, in a variety of debt finance transactions. In addition, he represents corporate and private equity portfolio company clients from the borrower side in connection with their debt financings.</p.
Alexis Iffert received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Wake Forest University, her master’s degree from the University of Florida and her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Millikin University. She has a background in student personnel in higher education, and focuses her transactional practice on mergers and acquisitions, employment and labor issues, health care law and general corporate law. She represents clients in many different industries and has experience negotiating and drafting a variety of contractual arrangements, including purchase agreements, employment agreements, service and operating agreements, and related documentation.

Chazle’ Woodley is a mass tort and litigation attorney. She graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she served as Student Bar Association president (2021-2022) and managing editor for the Environmental Law Review, Dean Advisory Council leader, and director of Teen Court for the Pro Bono Council. Woodley holds a Master of Business Administration from National Louis University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP announced 21 new partners and of counsel, including six NCBA members: Gerard Clodomir, Taylor Ey, Chris Hewitt, Dillon Redding, Patrick Spaugh, and Jamie Stone.
Gerard Clodomir is now of counsel with the firm. He practices in Greensboro. Clodomir is a litigator who primarily represents clients in matters of state and federal employment laws. He has defended cases before state and federal courts and proceedings before administrative agencies, which include the EEOC and Department of Labor. He is also a member of the Education and School Law Team with the firm. He received a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, a master’s degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.S., cum laude, from Howard University.
Taylor Ey is now a partner with the firm. She practices in the Research Triangle Park location. Ey counsels clients through matters of complex privacy and data security, and she navigates ever-changing laws to identify practical solutions and to achieve business objectives. She also advises clients in intellectual property transactions to purchase, sell or license IP rights. Ey previously served as Communications Co-chair for the NCBA Privacy & Data Security Section. Chris Hewitt is now a partner with the firm, and he practices in the Charlotte office. He is a corporate & securities and private wealth attorney, and he focuses his practice in the areas of generational wealth transfer planning, trust and estate administration and tax-exempt planning. He also assists with the creation of tax-exempt entities and advises operating tax-exempt entities in matters of tax and governance. Hewitt holds a J.D., cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Campbell University, where he was the valedictorian of his class.
Dillon Redding is now of counsel with the firm, and he practices in the Raleigh location. He assists with financial transactions for financial institutions and other lenders. He also helps with the documentation and negotiation of large commercial real estate secured loans and middle market credit facilities, and he assists corporate clients with their supply of goods and services and other complex procurement needs. He holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a B.A. from UNC.
Patrick Spaugh, who practices in the Charlotte office, is now a partner with the firm. He represents businesses in complex commercial disputes and class actions before state and federal courts in the U.S. He has represented companies in the health care, energy, construction, sports and entertainment, and financial services industries, as well as manufacturers and employers. Spaugh was a member of the NCBA Leadership Academy Class of 2020. He holds a J.D. from Duke University School of Law, where he received the Justin Miller Award for Citizenship and the D.O.N.E. Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Duke Law Community. He earned his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jamie Stone is now a partner, and she practices in the Greensboro office. She counsels clients in sophisticated corporate and commercial transactions, which include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, general corporate advising, structuring and governance of corporate entities, supply chain matters, and negotiating commercial contracts. Since 2019, she has served as a board member for the GreenHill Center for North Carolina Arts.
