A Message from the Chair: Two Volunteer Opportunities

By Ben Baldwin, Chair of the NCBA Business Law Section

Hello, fellow Business Law Section members.

I want to put out a loud and emphatic call for volunteers for two important undertakings of our section.

First, as I had mentioned in my Blog post in July, we are in the process of planning the CLE in conjunction with the section’s annual meeting in February 2021 (which will be held in a virtual/online format). We have had some good success recruiting a few members of the planning committee, but we still need more to help in that effort. Whether or not you have had any experience in planning any CLE, if you are at all inclined to give it a try, we would love to hear from you.

I can attest that it is a terrific way to get to know and to collaborate with like-minded folks across the state and to accomplish something that is critically important to our members (especially those of us — and probably a majority — who are routinely scrambling under a deadline to get our CLE hours each February for the prior year — and who appreciate having genuinely relevant and interesting material to absorb in the process). And since the work of the committee is shared by a group, the required time commitment of any one member is not at all daunting.

Second, by way of follow up to Communications Chair Andrew Steffensen’s post earlier this month, I want to encourage all of our members to consider volunteering to serve on our Board of Editors for our Blog. As Andrew said, board members are responsible for generating new content and articles for the blog on a rotating basis. Members can either write the posts themselves, or recruit others to do so. If you prefer to take the pen yourself, it is an excellent way to hone your writing skills as you work your way towards becoming the next Grisham or Turow.

We would be delighted to have the benefit of your energy and talents in either capacity, so please don’t be shy and please do consider signing up!

And in any case please stay safe and best wishes for a terrific fall season.
