Insurance Law Section Annual Meeting and CLE Wrap-Up

By Daniel Knight

In case you missed it, the Insurance Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association held its annual meeting and CLE at the NC Bar Center in Cary on January 31, 2018.  This year’s CLE offered a great selection of speakers presenting on a variety of practical topics, including useful tools in litigating coverage matters, such as E-discovery, use of experts, and tips for deposing insurance adjusters, the Section’s annual insurance case law update, understanding professional liability insurance, and managing stress through the use of mindfulness.  Video Replays of the CLE will be on March 27, 2018 in Cary and April 12, 2018 in Winston-Salem.  Click here to register for one of the live replays.

During the Section’s annual meeting, five new Council members were elected to fill the seats of those Council members whose terms expire this year.  Congratulations to David Harris, Mark Langdon, Bill Bulfer, Tracy Eggleston, and Mac Sasser on being elected to the Insurance Law Section Council and thank you for your willingness to serve the Section and the Bar Association.  David, Mark, Bill, Tracy, and Mac were elected to fill the seats of Kathleen Dooley, Laura Loyek, Jonathan Reich, Al Root, and Jennifer Welch, whose terms expire on June 30, 2018.  Thank you Kathleen, Laura, Jonathan, Al, and Jennifer for your years of service to the Section and the Bar Association.

The Annual Meeting also saw the election of the Section’s officers for the upcoming year, beginning in July of this year.  Deb Bowers will become the Section’s Chair, while Mike Medford will serve as the Vice Chair, Jennifer Welch as the Secretary, and Alan Ruley as the Treasurer.  Congratulations to you all on your officer positions and thank you for your continued service to the Section and the Bar Association.  In welcoming the Section’s new officers, thank you to Jim Bryan who has served as the Section’s Chair for the past year.  Jim’s leadership has been instrumental to the continued growth of the Section.  Thank you Jim for all your hard work and service to the Section and the Bar Association.
