Alesha Brown has joined Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP as an associate based in its Charlotte office where she will practice civil litigation. She previously practiced insurance defense at a firm in New York City and served as counsel to the New York City Council’s Committees on Civil Rights and Contracts.  Brown grew up in Charleston, S.C. and received her law degree from New York Law School and her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina where she graduated magna cum laude.

 

Jackie Knapp has joined Williams Mullin as an intellectual property associate in Raleigh. She joins the firm from Lathrope Gage LLP in Kansas City, Mo.  She is admitted to practice at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as in North Carolina and Kansas. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi, and she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina.

 

Michael B. Cohen has joined Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP as an associate based in its Raleigh office where he will practice civil litigation.  Cohen previously worked at a law firm in Cary, N.C., where he focused his practice on litigating complex class action employment law cases in federal and state courts nationwide.  Cohen graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law and George Washington University.

 

 

Amber Dorrell has joined McAngus Goudelock & Courie ‘s Charlotte office. Dorrell focuses her practice on workers’ compensation. Dorrell earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Francis Marion University.

 

Dora Kripapuri has joined Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP as its Director of Legal Recruitment & Development. She will be based in the firm’s Raleigh office.  She is a former adjunct professor of writing, representation, advocacy, and persuasion at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minn., and practiced complex business litigation in Minneapolis.  Kripapuri received her bachelor’s degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and her law degree from New England Law in Boston.

 

Stephanie R. Poston has joined Young Moore and Henderson, P.A.  as a member of the Estates & Trusts team.  A North Carolina native, Stephanie practiced law in the state of California for seven years, representing clients in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, and entertainment law. She is a graduate of Duke University and the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

 

Frank E. Emory Jr. has been named managing partner of Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP’s Charlotte office. A long-time firm leader with nearly 30 years in practice, Emory co-heads Hunton Andrews Kurth’s litigation and labor group.  Emory received his undergraduate degree from Duke University.  He received his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

 

 

Josh Whitlock has joined Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP  as a partner in the firm’s Charlotte office. He joins Parker Poe’s Education Industry Team and its Employment & Benefits Group.  Josh previously was a partner at a large international law firm and a leader of that firm’s education industry team.

 

Carl Newman has joined Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP  as an associate based in the firm’s Raleigh office.  Newman joins CSH Law after spending the last two and a half years representing the City of Chicago in over two dozen state and federal appellate cases.  He received his law degree from the University of Chicago with honors and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 

Scott Tobin has joined Smith Moore Leatherwood as a partner and is a member of the firm’s business group. Tobin was previously with Wagner, Johnston & Rosenthal, P.C.  He will be splitting his time between Raleigh and Atlanta.

 

Audrey Snyder has joined Ward Black Law where she is providing support in the areas of injury claims, including defective products and family law. She began working with Ward Black Law late in 2017 as a contract attorney and formally joined the team in the spring of 2018.  Audrey Snyder began her undergraduate studies at Campbell University, earning a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She went on to pursue law at the Campbell University School of Law, obtaining a Juris Doctor and graduating cum laude.

 

 

Michael Coletta has joined Gallivan White & Boyd’s Charlotte office.  Coletta will practice as a member of the firm’s Workplace Practices Group.  Coletta received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

 

 

Phil Weinstein has joined Ward and Smith’s  IP group in the Raleigh office.  His practice focuses primarily on patent protection across a wide spectrum of technologies such as semiconductors, software, smart grid power systems, and telecommunications and biomedical devices.  Phil also has experience assisting a wide range of clients such as startup tech companies, major international corporations, and universities.  Prior to his legal career, Phil worked at IBM for 15 years.
